BETODASHBOARD: EXECUTION ROADMAP & IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

Version 2.0 — Unified Technical, Operational, and Commercial Plan

1. Purpose & Context

1.1 Why This Roadmap Exists

The BetoDashboard Execution Roadmap transforms the Handbook into a living, enforceable plan guiding the framework from its initial release through multi-year expansion (2025–2028). It aligns engineering milestones, governance processes, and commercialization strategies into one reference document.

1.2 Scope

  • Applies to all projects built on the Beto Theme and BetoDashboard ecosystem.
  • Defines technical, operational, and business scaling procedures.
  • Serves as a baseline for auditing progress, onboarding new developers, and presenting roadmap updates to executive stakeholders.

1.3 Vision

“From theme to platform.” By 2028 the BetoDashboard framework will evolve from a developer tool into a multi-tenant, plugin-driven ecosystem supporting enterprise-grade e-commerce dashboards, analytics modules, and developer marketplace extensions.

1.4 Mission Statement

Deliver a scalable, accessible, developer-friendly dashboard framework that empowers teams to build enterprise interfaces faster, safer, and with design consistency — while becoming a commercially sustainable product family.

2. Governance & Structure

2.1 Project Ownership

3. Phase 0 — Infrastructure Bootstrap (Pre-Development)

Objective: Establish a secure, automated foundation for all subsequent phases.

Deliverables

  • Repository structure + branch protection.
  • GitHub Actions CI/CD with typecheck, lint, test, build.
  • Security automation (Dependabot + CodeQL).
  • CODEOWNERS and permissions matrix.
  • Figma → design-token sync (optional).

Success Metrics

  • CI/CD Green Runs → 100% success on push/pull request
  • High-Severity Vulnerabilities → 0
  • Repo Permissions → Least-privilege model confirmed

4. Phase 1 — Bootstrapping & Safety

Objective: Deliver a reproducible, type-safe, and secure developer environment ready for team onboarding within 1 hour.

Key Tasks

  1. Clone repo and install dependencies.
  2. Configure TypeScript, ESLint, Prettier.
  3. Add Content-Security-Policy to index.html.
  4. Install DOMPurify + Zod for sanitization and schema validation.
  5. Set up CI pipeline (.github/workflows/ci.yml).

Definition of Done

  • Typecheck and lint pass with no errors.
  • First unit test executes successfully.
  • CSP policy active and verified via browser tools.
  • README.md contains clone + build instructions.

Metrics & Decision Checkpoint

  • Setup time ≤ 1 hour (Owner: QA Lead)
  • Lint/Type errors = 0 (Owner: Arch Lead)
  • CSP Validation = Pass (Owner: Infra Eng)

5. Phase 2 — Core Architecture & State Layer

Objective: Build the foundation modules that govern data flow and resilience: Store, API Fetcher, Error Boundary, Schema Registry.

Core Deliverables

  • src/js/store.ts (Proxy-based global store + persistence).
  • src/js/api.ts (Zod-validated SWR fetcher).
  • src/js/error-boundary.ts (global runtime guard).
  • src/schemas.ts (Zod schema registry).

Acceptance Criteria

  • Store → Reactive set/get + persistence tested
  • API → Zod validation and TTL cache working
  • Error Boundary → Captures async and network failures
  • Security → No unsanitized innerHTML
  • Testing → ≥ 70% coverage

Metrics & Decision Checkpoint

  • Core tests ≥ 70% coverage; all CI jobs green; approval from Architecture Lead and QA Lead.

6. Phase 3 — Component System & Theming

Objective: Establish the Dynamic Component Engine (DCE), build base components (Modal, Table, Loader), and enforce theme tokens.

Deliverables

  • src/components/runtime.ts (DCE engine).
  • Modal.ts, Table.ts, Loader.ts components.
  • _tokens.css and base theme variables.
  • Accessibility baseline tests.

Accessibility Requirements

  • Focus trap for modals.
  • Keyboard navigation for tables.
  • Visible focus rings.

Performance Goal

  • Component bundle ≤ 50 KB gzip.

Metrics & Decision Checkpoint

  • Component Mount Rate → 100% success
  • axe-core Violations → 0 critical
  • Unit Coverage → ≥ 80%

7. Phase 4 — Testing, Accessibility & QA Automation

Objective: Guarantee reliability, consistency, and accessibility through automated validation embedded into the CI/CD workflow.

Core Deliverables

  • Unit + Integration tests (Vitest + Testing Library).
  • E2E tests (Playwright).
  • Accessibility tests (axe-core).
  • Visual regression testing pipeline.
  • Coverage reports uploaded to CI dashboard.

Definition of Done

  • Coverage → ≥ 85% unit + integration
  • Accessibility → 0 critical violations
  • CI Integration → All jobs green
  • Regression Baseline → Approved in Chromatic

Metrics & Decision Checkpoint

  • All automated gates passing before merge; weekly a11y review log submitted to QA Lead.

8. Phase 5 — Performance & Security Hardening

Objective: Optimize load time and enforce security guardrails for production readiness.

Key Actions

  • Run bundle analyzer (stats.html).
  • Conduct Lighthouse audit ≥ 95.
  • Enforce npm audit --production as CI gate.
  • Add web-vitals reporting (LCP, FID, CLS).

Performance Targets

  • Core Bundle ≤ 50 KB gzip
  • Vendor Bundle ≤ 80 KB gzip
  • TTI < 2 s
  • Lighthouse ≥ 95

Security Checklist

  • CSP policy verified.
  • DOMPurify active for all HTML.

9. Phase 6 — Documentation & Release

Objective: Deliver developer-friendly docs and a repeatable release pipeline.

Deliverables

  • VitePress documentation site (/docs).
  • CHANGELOG.md using semantic versioning.
  • Automated npm publish on tag push.
  • Post-deployment verification (Lighthouse + axe + QA).

Success Gate

  • Docs → Updated + linked in release PR
  • Build → Clean + audited
  • Accessibility → AA compliant
  • Performance → Budgets met
  • Release → Tag and artifact verified

10. Phase 7 — Expansion & Integration

Objective: Transform BetoDashboard from framework to ecosystem.

Strategic Goals

  1. Plugin Architecture — enable external widgets via formal API.
  2. Analytics Dashboard Module — built using ChartWidget pattern.
  3. Multi-Theme Support — allow custom skins for different brands.
  4. Developer Marketplace — publish approved extensions.
  5. Enterprise Integrations — OAuth / SAML authentication adapters.

Deliverables Timeline

  • 2026 Q1–Q2 → Public plugin SDK alpha
  • 2026 Q3–Q4 → Analytics module + Marketplace beta
  • 2027 → Multi-tenant deployment model
  • 2028 → Full commercial SaaS edition

11. Future Evolution & Scaling Paths

Strategies for improving, scaling, and extending the framework beyond its initial v1 specification — incremental and non-breaking.

11.1 How to Improve (Immediate Next Steps)

a) Implement the Toast Component — create src/components/Toast.ts and register via define.

  • Queue multiple messages; auto-dismiss by duration.
  • Accessibility: aria-live="polite" / "assertive" as per type.
  • Close button with label "Close notification".
  • Trigger via store.set('toast', { message, type }).

11.2 How to Scale (Long-Term Architectural Evolution)

a) State Management → Zustand/Redux

  • Wrap existing store API; gradually migrate components to hooks; retire custom Proxy store.
  • Benefits: DevTools debugging, middleware, performance optimization.

b) Component Architecture → Full Framework (Micro-Frontend)

  • Coexist DCE and React/Vue via Module Federation.
  • Use Strangler pattern to rewrite bounded contexts.
  • Eventually DCE becomes Widget Host for remote modules.

c) Data Fetching → TanStack Query
